How to adopt one of our precious babes

First let’s read some important information about the process of choosing one of our sweet puppies. What you can expect and know that we are here for you and your new baby.

We breed our miniature dachshunds to have a sweet temperament . Some are more outgoing and some are more reserved, others fall in between those. You will help to mold them as they grow up. We have a short easy quiz that you can take to help you decide the dog personality for your lifestyle.

Which miniature dachshund makes the better pet, male or female

Males are usually more affectionate, attentive and sometimes more demanding of attention. They are attached to their family. They tend to be more reliable and less moody. They are more outgoing, more accepting of other pets and take to children quicker than a female. However, males can be more easily distracted during training, as males like to play often. Neutered males rarely exhibit behaviors such as humping, marking or lifting legs once testosterone levels decrease after neutering. If neutered early they usually don't ever raise a leg to urinate. Males generally cost 1/2 the amount of money to be altered. The females rule the pack. They determine the pecking order and they are who compete to maintain that order. As a result females are usually more independent and stubborn than the males. Most fights will usually break out between 2 females. Yes they are loving and sweet also, they tend to be more of a one person dog. They are more cautious of strangers. She reaches mental maturity quicker and is more focused. She is easier as a rule to train. So it depends on what you want from your pet as to which is better for you.

Recommendations for our miniature dachshunds Vaccination schedule- 1st 5way at 6-8 weeks is already given, 2nd 5way at 10-12 weeks, 3rd 5way at 14-16 weeks along with a rabies vaccine. Lepto vaccines are not recommended for dachshunds as they can have life threatening reactions and death. Your puppy needs to be put on a 3 month schedule of worm treatment. I use Safeguard or Panacur, sold over the counter. It is recommended to spay a female after she has her first heat cycle, a male at 8 months to a year for neutering. Trim their nails, front and back as needed, every 1 to 2 months. Brush their teeth daily and give chews for dental care. And of course lots of snuggles
